Who we are

Matamim is a recipe app developed and run by Alon Kopilov, an independent developer in Israel ("we"). For any privacy question, write to support@matamim.org.

Using the app without an account

You can use Matamim without signing up. Your recipes and photos then stay on your device only, and nothing about them is sent to us.

What we collect

• Account details: your email address, your name and your password. The password is stored hashed, so we can't read it. Your app language and cloud sync setting are saved with your account.
• Recipes and photos: when cloud sync is on, your recipes and their photos are stored on our servers so they reach your other devices and your team.
• Teams: which team you created or joined.
• Subscription: whether you have an active Premium subscription. Purchases are made through Apple or Google; we never see your payment details.
• Recipe import: when you import a recipe from a link, the link and the content of that page are processed to find the recipe. The result is saved by link, not linked to you, so the next import of the same page is faster.
• Recipe import from a photo: the photos you choose are sent for reading, to find the recipe written in them, and are not saved, neither on our servers nor by the app. The camera is used only when you choose to photograph a recipe, and photos taken this way are not saved to your gallery.
• Sharing to Matamim: when you share a link, text or photos from another app to Matamim, the app opens the import with them, and nothing is sent until you start it. Shared text is sent for reading like photos are, and is not saved. For a TikTok, Instagram or YouTube post, we read the post's public caption or description to find the recipe; the result is saved by the link like any other link import.
• Import statistics: for each import we keep facts about it with your user ID, such as whether it worked, how long it took and what it cost, and never the link, the photos, the text or the recipe. They help us keep imports working well and are deleted with your account.
• Crash reports: when the app crashes or hits an error, it sends a report with your user ID (a random number, not your email), device and app details, and the app's last steps before the error. Reports don't include your email, your name or your recipes.
• Abuse prevention: your user ID is used to count requests, so a single account can't overload the service.

We don't collect your location, contacts or advertising ID. The app has no ads, doesn't track you across apps or websites, and we don't sell your data.

Who can see your data

• Your team: if you're in a team, the recipes of every Premium member, including the host, are shared with the whole team automatically. Members also see each other's names. Only the team's host sees members' email addresses.
• Photos: only you and your team can see your photos.
• Service providers that run parts of the app for us, only for that purpose:
  • Supabase: accounts, the database and photo storage
  • RevenueCat: managing subscriptions
  • Sentry: crash reports
  • Anthropic: reading recipes from web pages, social posts, shared text and photos during import
  • YouTube API Services: reading the description of a YouTube video you import. See the YouTube Terms of Service and the Google Privacy Policy.
  • Upstash: counting requests
  • Apple and Google: app distribution and payments
  These providers may store data on servers outside Israel.
• The law: we may disclose data when the law requires it.

How long we keep it

• Your account and recipes are kept as long as your account exists.
• A recipe you delete is removed from our servers within 30 days, and its photo shortly after.
• Deleting your account immediately deletes your account, recipes, photos and team membership. Copies in backups are overwritten within a limited time.
• Logging out deletes your recipes and photos from that device.
• Crash reports are deleted automatically after a limited time.

Your rights

• You can see and change your name, email and password in the app.
• You can delete your account at any time in the app: Account → Delete account. See how to delete your account.
• You can ask for a copy of your data, ask us to correct or delete it, or ask any question by writing to support@matamim.org. We'll answer within 30 days.

Security

All data travels over encrypted connections. Access rules on our servers make sure only you, and your team members for team recipes, can read your recipes.

Children

Matamim isn't meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data.

Changes to this policy

When this policy changes, we'll update this page and its date. We'll announce significant changes in the app.
